So, as promised on Instagram earlier, I went out for dinner last night with my father and sister. We went to a swiss restaurant nearby, which I really wanted to go to. It makes awesome Fondues! It's called "Schweizweit" and located in Hamburg, Germany. So if you ever go there, I highly recommend it! It's like a cute cubby hole and you have to go downstairs, actually, to go inside.
So this is Christmas…
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! I have spent the last week catching up with my boyfriend, which was pretty awesome. :) It's christmas!! Because I am currently moving house, good friends of my family have very kindly invited us to come down to Frankfurt and spend christmas - the family holiday - with their family. I can't even express how thankful I am… I will put pictures up of my christmas! Those can be found in my Photography tab. Be aware: this is a BIG christmas post! Until now - I must admit - I have been one spoilt child. I have gotten what I wanted. Last year, for example, I had gotten my iPhone 5!! This year it cracked, unfortunately… But it's still fine! Planning on keeping it at least another year… it's not that old yet! :P So, anyway, this year I wanted/needed two things: A certain cardigan - Abercrombie. They are so fluffy, cuddly, and warm! - and a certain iPhone case - I gave my mom and sister a selection of two beautiful ones -. I have been thinking lately…
About what tattoo I would get if I were to get one. I am not one of those people who have always wanted to have a tattoo. Neither am I one of those who are completely anti. I am one of those people who think that it may be nice to have a pretty, meaningful tattoo, which I will not be ashamed of once I am a grandmother. So, it must be small. Meaningful. Me. I just don’t really know what or where. Sorry if some people may think this is boring, but I think it is sweet. Besides, I would be doing it for myself. As promised in my last post "In Memoriam: Nelson Mandela", here's the list. I have had this list for a long time now of people I would love to meet one day. For various reasons. Possibly because they are motivational, inspirational, an idol, or just for the "fun-factor".
Here it is: 1. Nelson Mandela. Actually, I wanted to meet him and collaborate with him through a meaningful, socially aware project in South Africa. And then - this is what I had imagined as a young girl - I'd be in contact with him and we'd understand each other so well that I could introduce him and my father to each other, just like my father has introduced me to him (as a person, not in person). A hero. 2. Warren Buffet. Warren Buffet is one of the most wealthiest men alive at this time. My interest in him, though, has evolved when my father gave me a newspaper article one day, about how this Warren Buffet, as a very young adolescent, did little and simple things to earn a little bit of money. I must have been about 12 or 13 years old at this time I received the article. His entrepreneurial engagement fascinated me as it is something we have in common. I was shocked when I heard the news.
Only a few days ago was it that I wrote about one of my all-time favorite movies "Invictus". It is about how Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman!!) helps this white Rugby player (Matt Damon) to grow stronger as a person. He is motivated to be strong and support his team. Actually, the movie's theme song and central image is based on the eponymous (same-named) poem by William Ernest Henley in 1875. This poem was one of Mandela's favorite ones, which he would regularly quote. It is a great poem and especially a great, great movie! Please, please do watch it - you will not be disappointed. I promise. In fact, I have had this list for a long time now of people I would love to meet one day. For various reasons. Possibly because they are motivational, inspirational, an idol, or just for the "fun-factor". Now, guess who the very top person on that list was… Let's not forget the children at Christmas!! They are the main people being gifted on this day. For children, the best part about Christmas is always to wake up and receive presents, in order to be the happiest they can be for the rest of the day - spending Christmas day with the family, friends and dearest ones. Or in whichever order you traditionally do it. Children are easiest to please, I think. Although I can distinctively remember being quite disappointed one Christmas… Basically: I advise you to stick to the wish list. As obvious or silly as this may sound, you should know what would make them happy. Here are my suggestions: Yes, this little girl is my sister. My one and only sister, my big sister. Anna.
This is the beginning of my own story. Well not really, because I want to introduce you to my family as it was before I was born. … So here we go. My father is german, lived a long time in America (almost half his life, roughly 16 years, I believe). His mother travelled from Germany to America and back with him and his younger brother 'M'. His father stayed in America until he passed away there, in Florida. In fact, it was just before my sister was born. He knew that my mother was pregnant, but was too ill to meet my baby sissi. :( So we come to my mother: She is french, which I love, and her entire family is, too. Okay, fine, her younger sister moved to switzerland some day and still lives there, but she is still french at heart. ;) They were a typical family of 5 children, lived in/near the alps; a working father, housemother, obedient children; a lot of mountains, a lot of hiking and skiing, a lot of baguette and cheese! Throughout the years they moved from their hometown to another one, called "Annecy", built a house there (they built it themselves!) and my grandmother still lives there. - That is where I have always gone to on holiday. Now, I say they 'were' a family of 5 children, because unfortunately one of the sons - the eldest of them all - tragically passed away in an … Invictus is one of my all-time favorite movies. It really is a very moving and motivational movie. Not to mention that Morgan Freeman is my favorite actor… (Before Meryl Streep who is also over-the-top awesome!). He plays Nelson Mandela in the movie.
The movie is about a rugby team and they need motivation. The most motivational lines are in a poem being read out when the rugby team visit Robben Island (a former prison-island a few kilometers off the coast of South Africa, on which Nelson Mandela was once held in). These same lines are also in the theme song, which plays at the beginning of the movie, repeated at the end of it and the music can also be heard in the background throughout the movie. This keeps bringing the message back into the viewer's mind. |
